College Welcome
Since 2001, the Engineering First Year program has hosted an annual College of Engineering Welcome event featuring our Dean of Engineering and a keynote speaker.
2026 Keynote Speaker: Harry Sideris
Harry Sideris, a proud Wolfpack alumnus, serves as president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy. The Fortune 150 company headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is the nation’s largest regulated energy utility.
Under Sideris’ leadership, Duke Energy is focused on critical infrastructure investments that meet historic load growth, provide superior service to customers and communities, and maintain safety and operational excellence.
A 30-year company veteran, Sideris has held key leadership roles spanning customer experience, utility operations, and environmental safety, demonstrating a deep commitment to operational excellence and community service.
Before becoming CEO in April 2025, Sideris served as president of Duke Energy, leading the company’s electric and natural gas utilities, including all aspects of operations, customer service and delivery, economic development, regulatory and legislative affairs, and grid and generation strategy.
Beyond Duke Energy, Sideris lends his expertise as a board member for the Edison Electric Institute, the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, and the World Association of Nuclear Operators. He is also a member of Business Roundtable and the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council. He holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University, an MBA from Campbell University, and completed the Advanced Management Program at the University of Chicago. Raised in Asheville, N.C., Sideris now resides in Charlotte. He and his wife, Catinna, have two daughters.
