Academic Advising

The Havelock Engineering Program is a site-based transfer program. Students begin by completing general education courses such as calculus, chemistry, physics, and humanities at one of North Carolina’s Community Colleges or from another approved university program. Then, they apply to the College of Engineering at NC State as transfer students.

What attracted me to the program was the ability to take NC State courses in Havelock. With my family and financial situation it would have been difficult to move to Raleigh to take classes. Also, there are great employment opportunities at Cherry Point.

Our veteran students enjoy the comfortable atmosphere of the Havelock Engineering Program, and many appreciate the opportunity to complete their assignments and projects in our facilities during the day so that they can spend more time with their families in the evenings. Veterans value the convenience of the Havelock Engineering Program.  Our dedicated study rooms in Craven Community College’s new STEM Building allow them to structure their school day as if it were a day at the office.  They make the most of their time on campus, working on homework and group projects to avoid the distractions of home and family life.  Our large veteran student population equally enjoys the camaraderie of other veterans in their classes.

The involvement of FRC-East in the Havelock Engineering Program is also a natural fit for many veterans. The skills and experience they have acquired from active duty service are valued by FRC-East and enrich their learning experience and help them to understand concepts taught in the classroom.

Contact us at if you’d like the opportunity to talk with one of our veteran students or alumni.
