Selected from across NC State’s engineering disciplines, Engineering Ambassadors represent the breadth and depth of what it means to be a Wolfpack engineer; academically accomplished, campus-connected, and committed to the growth of the engineering community around them.

Ambassadors serve as the face of the College: welcoming prospective students and their families, mentoring first-year engineers through one of the most demanding transitions in their academic careers, and extending the College’s reach to K–12 students across the region. Their work is hands-on, high-impact, and reflective of the College’s commitment to developing engineers who lead beyond the classroom.

The Engineering Ambassador Program is part of the College of Engineering’s High-Impact Experience Opportunities Program (HIE) and is run by the Office of Academic Affairs.

How We Serve

Engineering Ambassadors work across a broad area of impact within the College and broader community:

Recruitment

Ambassadors represent NC State Engineering at campus visit events, information sessions, open houses, and admissions programs throughout the year. They share their own stories, answer real questions, and help prospective students and families understand what an NC State engineering education looks and feels like from the inside.

College-Wide Event Support

Ambassadors serve as Teaching Assistants in first-year engineering courses, support undergraduate recruitment efforts, and represent the College at a wide range of engineering events throughout the academic year.

Who Becomes an Engineering Ambassador

Engineering Ambassadors are selected for the strength of their academic record and, critically, for the breadth and depth of their campus involvement. The program intentionally recruits students whose experiences extend across the full ecosystem of NC State’s engineering community — from honors and scholars programs to student organizations, service groups, and professional societies.

Current and past Ambassadors have represented programs including the Park Scholarships Program, Caldwell Fellows, Benjamin Franklin Scholars, Grand Challenge Scholars Program, University Honors Program, TRIO Scholars, and discipline-specific honors societies such as Alpha Pi Mu. Members span more than ten engineering disciplines and come from across North Carolina, the United States, and internationally.

This range of experience and involvement is not incidental — it is the point. Engineering Ambassadors are selected because their varied experiences enable them to connect authentically with a wide range of students, families, and community members and represent the College with both credibility and genuine care.

Interested In Joining?

Engineering Ambassadors develop skills in communication, leadership, and community engagement that extend well beyond their time at NC State. Students from any year can apply to become an Engineering Ambassador. Applications open mid-fall semester and close in early January — check ePack for the current posting and deadline. Finalists are interviewed in the spring, with employment beginning in April.
