University-Level Distinctive Scholarships for Incoming Transfer Students

The Goodnight Scholars Program for transfer students is funded by a gift from Dr. Jim and Ann Goodnight. It is designed to develop scholars into leaders within the STEM and/or education fields. As a result, a number of Goodnight transfer scholars are engineering students.

Goodnight Scholars Program – The Goodnight Scholars Program for transfer students is a unique scholarship for outstanding NC community college transfer students in the STEM and education disciplines. It is available to low – and middle – income North Carolina residents who earn an Associates degree from a NC community college and is valued at $20,000 for up to three years. A comprehensive professional development program allows students to grow into tomorrow’s leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

University-Level Distinctive Scholarships for Current Students

Caldwell Fellows – The Caldwell Fellows program invests in students selected during their first year at NC State who share a passion to learn, grow and serve others. The Caldwell program provides extensive programming and leadership training, as well as fosters collaborative interaction with alumni, faculty and community partners. Students apply during their first year at NC State.

College of Engineering Scholarships

Through the generosity of donors, a number of scholarships are available to undergraduate students (rising freshmen, transfer students, and current students) in the College of Engineering.  To be considered for these opportunities, all students (rising freshmen, transfer students, and current students) must complete the general application annually for university-based scholarships and financial aid.

Applications received by February 15 will receive priority consideration.

Among the many College of Engineering scholarship opportunities (all available through PackAssist), a handful are specifically designated for rising freshmen, rising transfer students, or current students.

These opportunities are reserved specifically for rising freshmen in the College of Engineering.

  • Project Lead The Way (PLTW) – The College of Engineering encourages students applying for undergraduate admission to the College of Engineering to complete the PLTW scholarship application. PLTW scholarship awards are non-renewable, available for one year only with an award amount of $1,000. An applicant must be a freshman enrolled in the College of Engineering who has participated in a Project Lead The Way engineering program. The deadline for the PLTW scholarship application is April 15.
  • FIRST Scholarship – The College of Engineering provides a first-year $1,000 scholarship (non-renewable) to up to 5 high school seniors who have participated on a FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) team during their high school career. The FIRST Robotics scholarship is primarily intended as recognition of a student’s engagement with engineering and problem solving and commitment to continuing his/her education in the discipline. The deadline for the FIRST scholarship application is April 15.

These opportunities are available to current NC State engineering students.

  • Benjamin Franklin Scholars – Each year the College of Engineering invites a limited number of outstanding freshmen to participate in the Benjamin Franklin Scholars Program. The program allows engineering and computer science students to complement their technical education with an in-depth study of humanities or social sciences. Students who complete this program earn two undergraduate degrees in five years — B.S. in computer science or engineering and a B.S. or B.A. in an area of the humanities and social sciences. Many of these scholars choose to earn a degree in multidisciplinary studies (MDS), allowing them to pursue studies such as science, technology and society; international aspects of technology; and communication and human relations. The Benjamin Franklin Scholars Program offers some scholarships to participants. Benjamin Franklin Scholars are eligible to receive scholarship funds during their sophomore through senior years at NC State.
  • The Rhett & Link Engineering Innovation Scholarship – The Rhett & Link Engineering Innovation Scholarship supports NC State sophomores and juniors in engineering or related fields who demonstrate a passion for creativity and innovation. Offering up to $25,000 per year, it empowers students to push boundaries and integrate engineering with creativity, driving innovation in their academic and professional pursuits.

These opportunities are available specifically to engineering transfer students.
