Dr. Khalia Braswell | Researcher, Educator, Technologist

Dr. Khalia M. Braswell is an award-winning technologist whose personal mission is to make social change using technology. Dr. Braswell graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Computer Science and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with an M.S. in Information Technology with a concentration in Human-Computer Interaction. Dr. Braswell was a Presidential Future Faculty Fellow at Temple University, where she obtained her Ph.D. in Education with a focus on Science, Math, and Education Technology. Her research focuses on informal CS learning programs’ impact on Black middle and high school girls. 

Dr. Braswell is the Founder and Former Executive Director of INTech Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to create innovative solutions for social good. Dr. Braswell gave a TEDx talk highlighting ways to get more Black and Latinx girls into tech. Forbes, NBC, PBS, Essence, The Root, The Charlotte Observer, and Because of Them We Can have featured her work with INTech.

As a speaker and moderator, she’s shared stages with notable leaders, including John B. King Jr., former U.S. Secretary of Education, and senior executives at Apple. She has also presented at Northwestern University, Apple, NAF, the Grace Hopper Celebration of Diversity in Computing, and the National Society of Black Engineers and Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference.

Dr. Braswell was previously a User Experience Engineer at Crunchbase, as well as, Apple in Cupertino, California, designing enterprise applications that reached all Apple employees. Dr. Braswell is on the 2020 North Carolina State University Outstanding Young Alumna list, the 2019 Essence Woke 100 list, the 2018 NAF Alumni Honorees, the 2018 Root 100 list of the most influential young African Americans, the 2018 Walker’s Legacy Women of Power, and the 2017 North Carolina State University Computer Science Outstanding Young Alumni list. Dr. Braswell is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
