Engineering America’s future

Laura Bottomley, a teaching associate professor at NC State University, believes engineering is “a vehicle for the solution of every problem.” Bottomley is the director of Women in Engineering — a program that encourages women to consider careers in STEM fields — and the Engineering Place — which seeks to educate North Carolina citizens, particularly K-12 students, about engineering.

First-year class boasts highest percentage of female engineers

NC State’s 2014 first-year engineering class includes the highest percentage of female students in university history — nearly 25 percent — which is an increase from 18 percent five years ago and 14 percent 10 years ago.

Bottomley named ASEE Fellow

Dr. Laura Bottomley, director of the Women in Engineering program and The Engineering Place in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, has been named to the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Academy of Fellows. She will be honored at the ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition Awards Ceremony June 16 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Bottomley honored by IEEE

Dr. Laura J. Bottomley, director of the Engineering Place outreach program at NC State, received the IEEE EAB Meritorious Achievement Award in Informal Education as part of the 2009 IEEE Educational Activities Board Awards.
