Bottomley honored by IEEE
Dr. Laura J. Bottomley, director of the Engineering Place outreach program at NC State, received the IEEE EAB Meritorious Achievement Award in Informal Education as part of the 2009 IEEE Educational Activities Board Awards.
Bottomley’s programs reach more than 5,000 students, 200 teachers, and 500 parents each year. She is also the director of NC State’s program, which aims to boost the number of female engineering students.
Bottomley received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1984 and 1985, respectively. She received her PhD in electrical engineering from NC State in 1992.

The award was announced in the May 2010 IEEE Transactions on Education.
