New research from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) has demonstrated a technique that converts carbon fibers and nanotubes into diamond fibers at ambient temperature and pressure in air using a pulsed laser method.

Engineering graduate student wins Lemelson-MIT Student Prize

Federico Scurti, a Ph.D. candidate in North Carolina State University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), has won a $15,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize for his work in enabling applications of high temperature superconductors (HTS), specifically for inventions to detect and prevent HTS failure.

On January 29, ORaCEL (Organic and Carbon Electronics Labs) at NC State University held the Future of Materials Workshop at Talley Student Union on NC State’s campus. The aim of the workshop was to “address the grand challenges facing the next generation of functional materials by fostering collaborative activities that harness a wide-range of research tools and intellectual resources within the Research Triangle area.”
