The rise of Rella: A story of engineering entrepreneurship

There are important moments in our lives that require a little courage to take that leap of faith. At least, that is how Natalie Barbu, industrial and systems engineering ’18; Nick Kane, electrical and computer engineering ’20; and Connor Boyce, electrical engineering ’20, felt when they first launched their brand-new business, Rella, in app stores.

Engineering alumni establish new endowment for Caldwell Fellows program

The Caldwell Fellows Program is excited to celebrate the establishment of a new endowment by two of our alumni with a unique story. Allison Anderson (BS Biomedical Engineering ’05; MS Industrial Engineering ‘07) and David Anderson (BS Mechanical Engineering ’05) met during their time in the Caldwell Fellows Program. It had such a significant impact on their lives, that they decided to establish a new named fund that will honor this impact and benefit students in the program.

Human-computer interface, deep learning and explainable AI

The human body is an important source of big data. Biometric data can be collected to track health status and actively improve quality of life. Though data analysis has recently been actively used as a tool for industrial innovation, biometric data analysis seems to approach the essence of engineering in terms of developing technologies that benefit human beings.
