Up in the air

A sneak peek of that future will be available around the NC State campus and surrounding communities in the coming years. National Science Foundation (NSF) funding is helping faculty members in the College’s Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science (CSC) build experimental testbeds using new fifth generation (5G) wireless communication technology to allow the research that will enable the future of drones.

5G drone research to support smart agriculture

Ericsson and AERPAW, funded by the National Science Foundation and a consortium of industry partners, have announced a collaboration on advancing the use of 5G for drone operations in support of smart agriculture.

The Institute of Next Generation IT Systems in the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University is hosting a drone programming challenge culminating on April 12 with a goal of raising awareness of these platforms and increasing participation in drone-related activities.
