Although his former students speak effusively about Nau, he shies away from the spotlight. When asked about his four-decades-long career, he assured me there are a myriad of other professors and mentors who deserve higher praises.

Anarde named NASEM Early-Career Research Fellow

CCEE assistant professor Dr. Katherine Anarde was among seven scientists named 2022 Early-Career Research Fellows in the Environmental Protection and Stewardship track by the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM).

Grad student wins fellowship from Chilean National Research and Development Agency

CCEE graduate student Tómas Cuevas López was awarded a fellowship from the Chilean National Research and Development Agency. The Beca de Magister en el Extranjero supports Chilean students pursuing master’s degrees abroad.

CCEE students introduce young girls to engineering concepts through camp

Four CCEE Ph.D. students — Ana Paula Bona, Jessi Thangjitham, Lina Espinosa and Nancy Ingabire Abayo — and undergraduate student Natalie Hackman set up fun and engaging activities related to civil, construction and environmental engineering to give campers a taste of all that the fields have to offer.

Underwood featured in Triangle Business Journal

As temperatures rise due to climate change, engineers are having to adapt to create sustainable infrastructure, including heat-resistant pavement. CCEE associate professor Dr. Shane Underwood, whose research focuses on materials and their interaction with society and the natural and built environments, was recently interviewed by Triangle Business Journal for his expertise on potential solutions.

CCEE students, faculty attend 2022 AEESP Research and Education Conference

Nearly 30 CCEE students and faculty attended the 2022 Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Research and Education Conference on June 28-30 at Washington University in St. Louis. The conference, which was themed “Environmental Engineering and Science at the Confluence,” included workshops, plenary talks, panel discussions, and oral and poster presentations.

CCEE faculty, students gain valuable insights at 12NCEE

Eight CCEE undergraduate students, eight graduate students and three faculty members — Drs. Mervyn Kowalsky, Ashly Cabas and Andy Ziccareli — journeyed to Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 27 to July 1 to attend the U.S. National Conference on Earthquake Engineering (12NCEE), hosted by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). The CCEE group participated in conference sessions, committee meetings and networking events.

Five engineering faculty members receive CAREER Awards

Five members of the faculty of the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University have received Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2022. The award is one of the highest honors given by NSF to young faculty members in science and engineering.
