CBE students sweep the awards at ALD/ALE 2022

Landon Keller and Hannah Margavio, CBE Ph.D. students in the Parsons Lab, attended the AVS 22nd International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD 2022) featuring the 9th International Atomic Layer Etching Workshop (ALE 2022). This year’s three day meeting took place in Ghent, Belgium, and included over 800 attendees.

New catalyst leads to more efficient butadiene production

Creating butadiene from butane is tricky. Existing techniques for converting butane into butadiene either create a bunch of byproducts that nobody wants, or convert only a small fraction of the butane into butadiene each time the butane passes through a chemical reactor. As a result, you have to run the butane through the same process repeatedly.

Five engineering faculty members receive CAREER Awards

Five members of the faculty of the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University have received Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2022. The award is one of the highest honors given by NSF to young faculty members in science and engineering.

New engineering lab to improve viral vector processes and technologies

Viral vectors are viruses that have been modified to deliver genetic material into cells for treatment or research. Because viruses already naturally know how to deliver their genomes into cells they want to infect, scientists can use non-pathogenic viruses as a vehicle to introduce what they need directly into a cell.
