College of Engineering announces recipients of 2017 Sensus Reach Scholarship

North Carolina State University today announced that Ashish Amin of Cary, NC and Vedashrey Makthal, of Morrisville, NC are recipients of the 2017 Sensus ReachSM Scholarship. Amin, a senior, and Makthal, a junior, in the NC State College of Engineering will each receive a one-year stipend to cover tuition and fees, made possible by a donation from Raleigh, N.C.-based technology company, Sensus.

ISE researchers use simulator to make roads safer

Dr. David Kaber and the ISE Department are teaming up with the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED), Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE), Department of Psychology, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to use a first-of-its-kind driving simulator to make NC Highways safer for everyone.

Classmates Ben Darnell ’02 and Mark Voelker ’02 emerge as open source software industry leaders

College roommates and fellow computer science majors Ben Darnell '02 and Mark Voelker '02 recently crossed paths within the open source software industry. Longtime open source enthusiasts, both have established themselves as significant contributors in this realm: Darnell as co-founder and chief technology officer of startup Cockroach Labs, and Voelker as chief OpenStack architect at VMware, a publicly-traded global virtualization technology company.

Brenner to serve as interim head of MSE

Dr. Donald Brenner, Kobe Steel Distinguished Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University, will lead the department on an interim basis as the College of Engineering conducts a search for a new department head.

MAE student selected as elite astronaut scholar

Aerospace engineering student, Madison Maloney, has been selected to join the 2017-18 Astronaut Scholars. She will attend the Innovators Gala in Washinton, D.C., from September 14–16, where she will be awarded up to $10,000 and recognized with other members of the Astronaut Scholar Honor Society.
