Generous contribution by Jake and Jennifer Hooks boosts MSE

Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering extends heartfelt thanks to Jake and Jennifer Hooks for their outstanding generosity during the 2024 Day of Giving. Their significant contribution of $50,000 will be pivotal in advancing the department’s initiatives, particularly the establishment of a new Advanced Battery Materials Center.

Day of Giving, an annual stewardship event, provides alumni like the Hooks with an opportunity to support programs and gain insights into the impact of their financial support on departmental work and research. As a testament to their dedication, Jake and Jennifer had previously created the Jake and Jennifer Hooks Distinguished Scholar in Materials Science and Engineering, a position held by Professor Veronica Augustyn.

The most impactful support for MSE during this year’s Day of Giving is to the MSE Enhancement Fund. The Hooks’ support would be used for initial instrumentation or materials purchases and visiting local battery companies by Dr. Augustyn, other engineering faculty, and students.

The Hooks were particularly impressed by Professor Veronica Augustyn’s vision for the new battery initiative within the department. This generous support will bolster the department’s current efforts and shape the future of materials science at NC State for the coming decades.

On September 5, Jake will be honored for his significant contributions to the university at the Watauga Medal awards ceremony. The Watauga Medal is NC State’s highest nonacademic honor recognizing alumni for their extraordinary support of the Wolfpack

The NC State University Department of Materials Science and Engineering is profoundly grateful for Jake and Jennifer Hooks’ unwavering support and dedication. Their contribution will have a lasting impact, fostering innovation and excellence within the department.
