Registration is now open for the 2023 NC Space Symposium
The 2023 NC Space Symposium will feature presentations by NASA experts, including the Artemis I launch director, as well as talks by student researchers and industry professionals. Make plans now to join NC Space Grant on Friday, April 21, at the McKimmon Center on NC State’s campus. Registration is now open and available through April 15.
Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, launch director of the Exploration Ground Systems Program at NASA Kennedy Space Center, will be the keynote speaker at lunch. Blackwell-Thompson is NASA’s first female launch director. She oversaw the countdown and liftoff of Artemis 1, NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft during its first flight test.
The opening session will feature Julie Williams-Byrd, center chief technologist and electro-optics engineer at NASA Langley Research Center. Williams-Byrd guides new research and technology development and provides leadership for planning, management and evaluation of technologies.
“This annual event showcases our NC Space Grant’s direct connections with NASA, while also celebrating our current student researchers and our alumni who are using their skills in a variety of roles,” notes Jobi Cook, associate director of NC Space Grant.
Symposium sessions will feature exciting STEM disciplines including space science, technology and future flight. Additionally, a career panel geared towards students will explore careers in STEM. Guests will hear from professionals about their career paths and learn what it takes to build a career in STEM.
In addition to the sessions and career panel noted on the agenda, more than 60 students will share their research during poster sessions. Student poster presentations will include NC Space Grant-funded scholars, fellows and interns.
