Dear College of Engineering Family,

The recent loss of our Wolfpack family members has affected our campus community in ways that are difficult to express. It is with this, and related concerns in mind, that Chancellor Woodson has shared that this coming Thursday, November 3, 2022, will be observed as a campus Wellness Day.

Whether you are a student, faculty member, or staff member, I encourage you to use this time to pause, reflect and reset understanding that all of us are subject to stress and life experiences that test our well-being. With this in mind, please consider participating in the health and wellness activities that the University has announced for Nov. 3. I also strongly encourage our students to use this time to identify or establish a support system to help you navigate the particular stresses that being a student can bring.

The well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is a top priority for the University and the College of Engineering.  We know we have to do more to address this issue. Please share your concerns and suggestions during the State of Wellness discussion on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Talley Student Union, room 4101.

Finally, if you are concerned about a friend, student, or colleague’s mental health, please make a CARES referral to ensure the individual’s safety.  I also implore anyone struggling with mental health and needing support to utilize the services offered through the Counseling Center.  We must take care of ourselves and each other so be assured that we are committed to finding ways to best support the health and mental well-being of our College of Engineering family members.

Sincerely,

Louis A. Martin-Vega, Ph.D., NAE
