College to hold listening sessions in September and October

The College of Engineering will hold several listening sessions with its assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion and the director of its Engineering Education program.

The sessions, which will begin on Monday, Sept. 26, and continue through early October, will be targeted toward several constituencies with the College of Engineering community: faculty, staff, students, persons with disabilities, current military members and veterans and LGBTQ+.

The College appointed Angelitha Daniel as its first assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion in summer 2022. Daniel served previously for many years as the director of its Minority Engineering Programs.

As assistant dean, Daniel will provide leadership for College-wide efforts to better ensure a supportive, equitable and inclusive work, teaching and learning environment for the College’s students, faculty and staff. This includes providing leadership of the COE Diversity Committee, the design and development of a COE Diversity Strategic Plan and various other related endeavors.

She will be joined during the sessions by Laura Bottomley, director of the College’s Engineering Education program, its Women in Engineering program and its K-20 outreach program, The Engineering Place.

“You are invited to share your experiences,” Daniel said. “We want your thoughts about your day-to-day experiences in the College of Engineering. Your feedback is essential as we build a more welcoming and inclusive culture.” 

Sessions will be held at a variety of locations on Centennial Campus and main campus and during daytime and evening hours.
