College recognized in US News graduate rankings

The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University has been rated as one of the top public colleges of engineering in rankings of graduate engineering programs by US News & World Report.

The 2021 rankings, released on March 30, show NC State’s College of Engineering ranked as the 25th-best graduate engineering program in the United States, and 12th among public institutions.

The US News rankings of graduate programs are released annually in March with updated rankings of both colleges and departments. The rankings are one benchmark of success in academia.

The College was ranked 24th overall in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and 11th among public schools in 2020. Its current spot on the list represents a steady climb of ten spots over the last 15 years and is the result of sustained growth in rankings, enrollment and research expenditures for NC State Engineering.

The College is ranked in the top 10 nationally in research expenditures among all colleges of engineering, according to figures from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and is in the top 20 nationally in the number of annual bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. graduates in engineering, ASEE said.

In US News rankings of engineering specialties at the graduate level, academic departments at NC State within the College of Engineering and in other colleges placed in the top 20 nationally in agricultural, industrial and nuclear engineering.

The College also did well in US News rankings of online graduate engineering programs, which were released for 2021 in January.

NC State’s Engineering Online ranked sixth nationally on the list of Best Online Engineering Programs and 15th on the list of Best Computer Information Technology Programs. It’s the fourth straight year in which Engineering Online has landed in the top 10 on the Best Online Engineering Programs list.

In rankings of online engineering specialties, the College of Engineering was rated fourth for its mechanical engineering program. The College also ranked 11th in civil engineering, 11th in industrial, 13th in electrical, and 15th in engineering management. The Engineering Online master’s program also landed in the top 10 for Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs for Veterans, coming in at seventh nationally.
