Veliadis named IEEE fellow
Dr. Victor Veliadis, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North Carolina State University and deputy executive director and chief technology officer (CTO) for PowerAmerica, has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The rank of Fellow is bestowed upon a very limited number of Senior Members who have contributed importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology bringing significant value to the society. IEEE, the world’s largest professional society for the advancement of technology, has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries.
Veliadis was appointed CTO for PowerAmerica, a public-private power electronics institute led by NC State and located on the University’s Centennial Campus, in 2016. He became a professor in ECE in 2016, and was named deputy executive director of PowerAmerica in 2017. Veliadis was recognized by IEEE for his contributions to the development of SiC power devices.
He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society and has served in the European Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ECSCRM), The International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM), IEEE Workshop on Wide Bandgap Power Devices and Applications (WiPDA), and International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD) organizing committees. He has given more than 60 invited presentations, keynotes and tutorials; has authored/co-authored 106 peer-reviewed technical articles and three book chapters; and is the primary or co-inventor in 24 issued patents.
Veliadis received Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
