Floyd receives Outstanding Teacher Award
Dr. Brian Floyd, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received the Outstanding Teacher Award for 2016-2017 from the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University during the College’s spring faculty meeting April 22.
The award, presented to 19 NC State faculty members for 2016-17, recognizes excellence in teaching at all levels and is a prerequisite for being considered for the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Alumni Distinguished Professor Award.
Recipients become members of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers for as long as they are NC State faculty members. Recognition is given at commencement, the Celebration of Academic Excellence and the Teaching and Learning Symposium.
Floyd joined the NC State faculty in January 2010. He is interested in the general areas of RF, millimeter-wave (mm-wave), and sub-millimeter-wave circuits and systems for wireless communications, imaging and radar applications. He was praised in his nomination for the award for his ability to make complex courses and their material relatable for students while preparing them for careers in industry. A former student wrote, “Dr. Floyd taught me to believe and to fight fears with calm and perseverance, which I took as a lesson for life. It was a key to my success in the course.”
