Four join Engineering Foundation
Erica Fuller joined the Foundation as a temporary employee last March and became a permanent administrative support associate in May 2015. In her support capacity, she handles a variety of tasks ranging from thank you notes and mass mailings to special project tasks. Prior to joining the Foundation, Fuller worked for Young Life, a non-profit organization, where she mentored high school students, raised funds and performed administrative tasks. Fuller joined Young Life right after graduating from the University of Tennessee in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.
Kyle Gray joined the Foundation in January 2016 as the director of development for the Joint UNC/NC State Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). He most recently served as director of development for UNC-Chapel Hill’s Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) in the School of Medicine. During his tenure, the AHS donor base tripled, increasing cumulative donations by more than $10 million from 2006 to 2015. Gray came to AHS from UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Government, where he served as assistant dean for development and communications. Previously, he was a career specialist for Boston Private Industry Council at Boston Latin School and senior program instructor for the Close-Up Foundation in Washington, D.C. Gray received a master’s degree in public administration from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1997 and a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in urban studies from The Colorado College in 1989.
Lindsay Smith joined the Foundation in November 2015 as the director of development for the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. Smith comes to the Foundation from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, where she was senior director of annual giving. Prior to that, she was assistant director and then director of the Quaker Club, which is the unrestricted annual fund for Guilford College’s athletics department. In 2011, Smith received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a concentration in interpersonal and organizational communication from UNC-Chapel Hill. After graduation, she worked for the United Way.
Karen Welton joined the Foundation in June 2015 as a business services coordinator after working as a temporary employee for various departments at NC State. She manages incoming gifts, ensuring that they have the proper gift transmittals and are allocated to the correct funds in accordance with the donors’ wishes. She also assists with scholarships, making certain they are set up accurately in the College’s online scholarship portal. An alumna, Welton received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from NC State in 1988. Before returning to North Carolina, Welton and her husband ran their own structural engineering firm in Virginia. Husband Steven Welton is a lecturer in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State.
