Foundation strengthens leadership
The NC State Engineering Foundation strengthened its leadership team in 2015 with two hires of senior-level development professionals with years of valuable experience and relationships with NC State Engineering alumni.
Lora Bremer took over as the Foundation’s executive director of major gifts and campaign planning, and former Foundation director Ben Hughes returned to the organization as a special development advisor.
“Continuity is important, and we lack continuity in development, institutionally,” Brian Campbell, the College’s assistant dean for development and college relations and executive director of the Foundation, said. “So the fact that we have got people who have been here for long periods of time is invaluable. You just can’t buy this stuff. You can’t hire people who are that smart.”
Bremer joined the Foundation in 2009 as director of development for the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering.
She worked previously as senior associate director of alumni relations and the Lawrenceville Fund at the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J. and director of development for Villa Victoria Academy in Ewing, N.J.
Bremer oversees the development officers and coordinates departmental development activities and prospect strategy sessions. She also manages major gift strategy and fundraising for the Engineering Oval building project.
Hughes retired as executive director of the Foundation in September 2011 after an 18-year-career with the College. Since rejoining the Foundation in March 2015, he has reached out to alumni and friends he had a prior relationship with and has assisted with some discovery work. He is also a mentor and advisor to the rest of the Foundation staff and is working closely with Russ O’Dell in assisting the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with major gift development.
Bremer and Campbell agree that the current Foundation staff is one of the strongest that the organization has enjoyed in many years.
“I think we do have one of the best teams I’ve ever worked on in my career,” Bremer said. “They are focused and dedicated professionals who truly care about each other and our cause. It is a great combination and a nice working environment.”
