New director named for the NC State Pre-engineering Program at UNC-Wilmington

Dr. Amy Craig Reamer has been named the new director of North Carolina State University’s Pre-engineering Program at UNC-Wilmington. She began August 1.

Reamer replaces Dr. Ken Diehl, who retired after 15 years as the first director of the program.

“Amy brings tremendous enthusiasm for NC State and a wealth of experiences in working with NC State students, departments and staff,” said Dr. Linda Krute, director of Distance Education Programs in NC State’s College of Engineering.

Reamer previously served at NC State as the coordinator of student-owned computing for Information Technology and Engineering Computer Services and taught the Introduction to Engineering and Problem Solving course for first-year engineering students. She has also worked as a cost engineer at Lenovo.

Her research interests include applying performance optimization models in the K-12 education system and teaching and learning in the engineering disciplines. She will receive her PhD in industrial engineering from NC State later this month. She also received her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in industrial engineering from NC State.

The NC State Pre-engineering Programs allow engineering undergraduates to attend their first two years of study at other North Carolina colleges, such as UNC-Wilmington, and then complete their degree at NC State.
