Roger Narayan, professor in the joint UNC–NC State Department of Biomedical Engineering, has received the 2011 Richard M. Fulrath Award from the American Ceramic Society (ACerS).

Narayan will be honored for his pioneering contributions in nanobiomaterials and nanomedicine in October at the society’s 113th annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio. The event will be held in conjunction with the 2011 Materials Science & Technology Conference and Exhibition.

Narayan has published more than 100 journal articles as well as several book chapters on nanoscale and microscale processing, characterization, and modeling of biological and biomedical materials. He currently serves as an editorial board member of several professional journals, including as editor-in-chief of Materials Science and Engineering C: Materials for Biological Applications.

Narayan is a past recipient of the Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award, the NC State Sigma Xi Faculty Research Award, the UNC Jefferson-Pilot Fellowship in Academic Medicine, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award. He is also a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and ASM International.
