Zhu honored by TMS
Dr. Yuntian Zhu has been named the 2010 Materials Processing & Manufacturing Division Distinguished Scientist/Engineer by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS).
Zhu, a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, will receive the award at the annual meeting of the society in Seattle on Feb. 16.
The award recognizes individuals who have made a long-lasting contribution to the design, syntheses, processing, and performance of engineering materials with significant industrial applications. Zhu’s research focuses on nanostructured materials and carbon nanotubes.
TMS is a global professional organization consisting of scientists and engineers working in industry, academia and government, as well as students studying in the materials field. With its current membership exceeding 70,000, the society was founded to create a sense of unity in the profession and to promote education and the exchange of information and technology.
Prior to joining the faculty at NC State in 2007, Zhu held positions at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM.
Zhu received his bachelor’s degree in metallurgy from the Hefei University of Technology, China, in 1983, master’s degrees in materials science and engineering from both the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology, in 1988 and 1991, respectively, and his doctorate in materials science and engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994.
