NC State engineering students beat national average on FE Exam

North Carolina State University engineering students who took the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in October 2012 passed it at a much greater rate than the national average.

The passing rate for the 240 NC State students who took the test in October was 86 percent, exceeding the national rate of 70 percent.

The FE Exam, administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, is the first step in the process leading to a Professional Engineer license. The test is designed for students who are close to finishing an undergraduate engineering degree.

The College of Engineering offers a special review course, E 490, that helps prepare graduating seniors for the exam. Students in the course learn test-taking strategies and review science and engineering topics through active learning exercises and sample problems.
