NC State ranked in top 15 for video game design and development

The Princeton Review has ranked North Carolina State University and its undergraduate game development concentration among the 15 “Top Schools for Video Game Design Study” in the US and Canada for 2011.

The rankings were based on a survey of administrators at 150 schools offering video game design coursework or degrees. The survey, which included more than 50 questions, covered a wide range of topics, from academics and faculty credentials to graduates’ employment and career achievements.

The game development concentration in NC State’s Department of Computer Science allows students to develop an understanding of the scientific and technological principles associated with the design and development of computer and console games for both entertainment and serious applications. The concentration combines computer science coursework, such as computer graphics and game design and development, with electives such as fiction writing and music composition with computers.

NC State is also home to the Digital Games Research Center, a proposed multidisciplinary center that serves as a focal point for games-related research and teaching activities on the NC State campus. The center, which brings together faculty from the colleges of engineering, education, design and humanities and social sciences, contributes to the Triangle region’s reputation as one of the nation’s top game development centers.
