Daniel named interim director of Minority Engineering Programs

Angelitha L. Daniel has been named interim director of Minority Engineering Programs (MEP) in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University.

As interim director, Daniel will oversee all elements of MEP, including recruitment, retention, outreach and student success programs. She will work with the NC State University National Minority Engineering Programs Advisory Board, corporate partners and other external constituents to advance the goals of the program, which works to boost the number of underrepresented minorities entering and graduating from the College.

Daniel had served as MEP’s assistant director since 2003. She takes over the leadership post from Dr. Tony Mitchell, who retired in August. He is now assistant dean emeritus in the College.

“We are very grateful that Angie has agreed to take on this important leadership position,” said Dr. Jerome Lavelle, associate dean of academic affairs in the College. “She brings years of experience and will be a true asset in this role.”

Daniel serves as an advisor to the NC State chapters of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. She is also a past recipient of the Pride of the Wolfpack Award.

Daniel received her bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998.
