NC State engineering programs granted ABET accreditation

Reviewers with ABET, Inc., have granted full accreditation to 17 degree programs at the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University.

The accreditation came after a team of 26 program evaluators, observers, and team chairs representing ABET and various engineering professional societies visited NC State last fall. The group reviewed facilities and curricula and met with faculty and students.

“We are delighted that ABET has once again recognized and validated the quality of our engineering programs here at NC State.” said Dr. Jerome Lavelle, associate dean of academic affairs in the College of Engineering. “The ABET seal-of-approval tells our constituents that the engineering programs at NC State are high-quality investments.”

ABET first accredited engineering degrees at NC State in 1936. At the time, NC State’s civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs became among the first engineering programs accredited by ABET in the US.
