Campbell named executive director of development and college relations

Brian E. Campbell has been appointed executive director of development and college relations at the NC State Engineering Foundation, Inc., the fundraising and alumni relations arm of the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. He will assume his new role Oct. 24.

Campbell will take over the leadership post from Ben H. Hughes, who is retiring this month after 18 years with the NC State Engineering Foundation. Martin A. Baucom, associate executive director of development for the Foundation, will serve as interim executive director of development and college relations from Oct. 1 through Oct. 23.

Campbell is currently the chief institutional advancement officer for The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa., a position he has held since 2008. He has more than 16 years of experience in all aspects of development, including nonprofit management, strategic planning, major gift solicitation and staff management. He also has a successful track record of engagement with major gift prospects.

Campbell’s background includes serving as executive director of the University of Nevada Health Sciences System Foundation in Las Vegas, Nev.; senior director of development for the College of Business at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa; and executive director of the University of Virginia Medical School Foundation in Charlottesville, Va. His accomplishments include creating a comprehensive development program for the first independent, allopathic medical college in the US in three decades and planning and executing capital campaigns at two major research universities — the University of Virginia and Iowa State University.

Campbell also spent six years as a security instructor in the US Air Force at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He has held gubernatorial appointments on Virginia’s State Board of Social Services and the Virginia Advisory Council on Adult Education and Literacy.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Averett University and a master of education degree in higher education policy from the University of Virginia.
