Celebrating COE Distinguished Engineering Alumni

Three College of Engineering alumni received the 2024 Distinguished Engineering Alumni (DEA) Award.

Tony McLean Brown ‘83, earned his B.S. in computer science from NC State University and is a principal with the Public Consulting Group. He wrote Happy Guide to a Short Life in response to a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Quindlen. Philanthropic efforts from this collaboration have generated more than $2 million in donations to over 500 organizations.

Tracy B. Doaks ‘95 earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from NC State. She is president & CEO of MCNC, the technology nonprofit focused on delivering high-performance protected internet and networking, cloud services, cybersecurity and other essential technologies for communities throughout North Carolina.

Lane Ross Miller ‘88 earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from NC State. He is the retired vice president of global technology at LORD Corporation and promoted the introduction of LORD’s active vibration control products. He is an inventor on more than 15 patents related to this product.

Jerry Collier ‘67 and Rashida Hodge ‘02, ‘03 are the 2025 DEA Award recipients. They were recognized at a universitywide celebration in September and will be honored by the college later this fall.
