Engineering faculty members among those recognized for excellence
The Celebration of Faculty Excellence is held each spring to recognize outstanding faculty who have received prestigious state, national and international awards, accolades or other distinctions during this academic year. This year, NC State honored 41 faculty members during the 2024 Celebration of Faculty Excellence on April 30.
Chancellor Randy Woodson presented the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, NC State’s highest award recognizing faculty achievement.
The 2024 honorees were:
- Thomas Barrie, professor, School of Architecture
- Linda Hanley-Bowdoin, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor, Department of Plant and Microbial Biology
- Korukonda Murty, Progress Energy Distinguished Professor, Department of Nuclear Engineering
- Laurie Williams, Goodnight Distinguished University Professor in Security Sciences, Department of Computer Science
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden recognized the winners of NC State’s highest teaching awards:
- Paul W. Mulvey, associate professor, Department of Management: University of North Carolina Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Stephanie Jeffries, associate teaching professor, Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources: Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
Mulvey and Jeffries were recognized at NC State’s spring commencement exercises, and the NC State Memorial Belltower will be lit red in Mulvey’s honor at a time of his choosing.

2024 marks the thirteenth year of the Celebration of Faculty Excellence. In recognition of all honored faculty, the university lit the Memorial Belltower red for the night on April 30.
