In the pilot episode, Dr. Laura Bottomley, director of Women in Engineering and The Engineering Place at NC State University, demonstrates “engineering is everywhere” by examining the soles of ever-present shoes. From ballet slippers to running shoes, Dr. Bottomley shows the engineering that goes into different types of soles to optimize performance.
