The 6 C\u2019s complement the delivery of engineering skills and technical knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pedagogy emphasizes discovery, opportunity identification, and value creation and builds on active learning and problem-based learning techniques, adding the \u201cWhy should I care?\u201d by explicitly connecting classroom content to the real world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three reasons to teach with the 6 C\u2019s:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increase student motivation\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adds purpose and direction; allows students to integrate topics into their lives; decreases anxiety by providing multiple ways to demonstrate learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase instructor satisfaction\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shows students coming alive as they search for pressing problems; invigorates lectures and office hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase student learning and retention\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Builds on active learning and problem-based learning techniques which are known to improve learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"incubator\">Certificate Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>WEU has developed a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1p_eE71AdKtl4mB4Ej8izbHhFdYqRIjZ07t8yYzdjB8I\/edit?usp=sharing\">five-tier certificate program<\/a> open to all faculty and staff at NCSU. Discover how the 6 C&#8217;s: Curiosity, Connections, Creating Value, Communication, Collaboration, and Character, can develop your teaching methods, increase student motivation, and improve learning outcomes. This workshop is an opportunity to join a community of faculty equipping students with the skills they need to impact the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual May workshop is hosted on NC State\u2019s Centennial Campus in Engineering Building II, Room 3001, Dean Suite. Led by NC State College of Engineering and NC State College of Natural Resources Faculty Members Drs. Anna Howard, Nathalie Lavoine, and Kate Saul. A link will be shared for virtual attendance. Lunch will be offered for in-person attendance; you will receive a link with lunch options.
