The Office of Faculty Development and Success (OFDS) is thrilled is thrilled to announce the addition of Megan Morin, Ph.D., a Pittsburgh native and mother of two, to the team as the new Associate Director. Morin brings with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise in engineering education pedagogies, assessment, program evaluation, and faculty development, having earned her Ph.D. and master’s degree in the Learning and Teaching in STEM concentrating in Engineering and Technology Education Program at NC State.

Morin’s journey in engineering education began as a middle school teacher in Wake County Public Schools. Initially disheartened by standardized teaching, she discovered a passion for engineering education through The Engineering Place. By integrating engineering design challenges into her classroom, Morin transformed her teaching approach and created enjoyable and fun learning experiences for her students, such as designing a pediatrician’s office with consideration of the spread of pathogens or engaging in other design challenges.

In her earlier academic and professional pursuits, Morin actively engaged in the field of engineering education. She contributed to the Education and Workforce Programs at NC State’s Electrical and Computer Engineering’s FREEDM Systems Center and PowerAmerica Institute during her graduate work. Following this, she took on the role of KEEN program coordinator in the Applied Physical Sciences Department at UNC-Chapel Hill. In this role, she facilitated a faculty learning community for integrating curiosity, connection and creating value using the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN) Framework and Engineering Unleashed resources. Morin actively participated in other related grant initiatives, including the Entrepreneurially Minded Engineering Resource Group for Educators (EMERGE) Program and the Cooperative eMerging Partnership for Assessment Support and Success of the 3Cs (COMPASS). She was also awarded the Engineering Unleashed Fellowship.

Morin is helping bring different faculty development opportunities to the faculty that are valuable to them, as well as leading focus groups and assessments to identify the college’s top priorities in helping the faculty be successful and fulfilled in their everyday work. “Faculty have so much on their plates plus managing personal commitments. EFDS wants to provide opportunities that bring them one step closer to their goals or remove one task from their plate, so they leave work happy at the end of the day. I truly believe that we can contribute to that.” We encourage you to connect with Morin and share your input and ideas. She is eager to collaborate and welcomes your thoughts.
